The BOONKAJ COLLECTION is back! We are excited to re-launch the BOONKAJ Collection, now featuring hand-screenprinted fabrics that bring the designs to life with even more vibrancy and texture. Boonkaj is the Miriwoong word meaning ‘emerging’ or ‘coming out’. The collection celebrates the emergence of designs by textile artists: Anita Churchill, Kelly-Ann Drill, Delany Griffiths, Dora Griffiths and Cathy Ward from Waringarri Aboriginal Arts.
Inspired by traditional knowledge of bush plants and committed to preserving cultural traditions, the artists have created a unique fashion range made from plant-inspired motifs, screen-printed onto fine linen, transforming them into wearable art. Boonkaj is more than just a collection of beautiful garments. With the support of elders, Boonkaj is a regenerative project honouring cultural heritage and storytelling while enabling new artistic expressions and directly supporting the well-being, economic livelihoods and potential of Indigenous women from Miriwoong Country in the East Kimberley.
Boonkaj embraces the slow and sustainable fashion movement, with a focus on limited releases to ensure quality and longevity. All the fabrics are screen-printed by Waringarri artists and garments are made in Australia.
