The barramundi is an important animal culturally and spiritually in the Kimberley region and for my Gija people. We grew up fishing and hunting this fish our whole lives. In this image the barramundi is jumping for a dragon fly.
Carving is an important part of my art practice and I use it to tell the stories of my history and culture. I first learnt carving onto boab nuts by watching my elders when I was a teenager and I kept going from there. I also carve wooden tools, sculptures, and ceramic boab forms. Recently I have been learning woodcut printmaking. I like how my carvings turn out on paper.
