Artist: Margaret Peurmora

$980.00

40 x 100 cm, natural ochre and pigment on canvas.

This painting depicts the Wandjina and two freshwater turtles. These are surrounded by bush tools such as tapping sticks, boomerang, spears and axe. The turtles are bush tucker and represent the abundance of food in my Country.

Margaret Peurmora is following in the footsteps of her grandmother Ignatia Djanghara who she spent many, many hours with, while she was a child. She observed her painting the stories of her ancestors while learning the skills and knowledge of the past. The Wandjina brings rain during Wet Season, which will fill the rivers, creeks, billabongs and waterholes. The rain always brings a renewal and regeneration of the country, bringing abundant food and water for the people. It also has a cleansing affect on the minds of people so they can live in peace and harmony.
