Kenny Griffiths - Woorrilbem

$680.00

76 x 76cm, natural ochre and pigment on canvas.

Painting comes stretched over a wood frame.

This painting depicts Woorrilbem / Cockatoo lagoon Country. The large hill is called Julin (hill kangaroo) and it is looking down at the lagoon. This is where my family live and hunted for bush tucker in the past and still do now.  Bush tucker and medicinal plants are collected in and around the lagoon and are depicted in this painting. You can see fish/ goondarring, roomboong/ freshwater mussels, waterlily and Gamarung/ long-necked turtle. The vine around the lagoon represents jilingboong / bush cucumber growing around the lagoon. The ants in the ant beds at the bottom of the painting are consumed for medicinal purposes and help with upset tummies. The spinifex is used for the wax and is used to fix spears and repair coolamons.
The coolamon depicted at the top left and right of the painting are what my family use to carry bush tucker.
